Euro-mediterranean Water Institute (IEA) has its origins in the Recommendation 1471/200 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, of 25th September 2000, adopted in the 748th meeting of Ministers Deputies (3rd April, 2001).
It was constituted as a Foundation on 23rd July, 2001 and has since developed a program for non-profit activities on public water problems and water resources addressing technical, legal and institutional.
It has Spanish nationality though, in accordance with its international vocation, it may expand its scope to the whole the Euro-mediterranean area, with a mission to promote and foster cooperation and coordination between those interested in water issues.
As a result of the development of cooperation agreements with other institutions, independent research projects and with various public and private sector institutions are conducted.
