LA FUNDACIÓN IEA ASESORA AL GOBIERNO DE MALTA EN MATERIA DE RECURSOS NO CONVENCIONALES.
According to discussions with the F-IEA, Alter Aqua has invited CHS and F-IEA to the “NON CONVENTIONAL WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: Thematic Consultation in the framework of the National Water Management Plan for the Maltese Islands”, 6 May 2014, Valetta, Malta.
The National Consultation on Non Conventional Water Resources Management is a thematic consultation in the process of the development of the National Water Management Plan for the Maltese Islands and is organised in the framework of the Alter Aqua – Non Conventional Water Resources Programme in Malta, by the Ministry for Energy and Health, the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean, and the Coca-Cola Foundation and General Soft Drinks Ltd.
The Organisers required from the representatives of F-IEA and CHS to present, out of our wide experience on NCWR and treated waste water recycling, the case of the Region of Murcia under Session 1: Non Conventional Water Resources Management in Spain (Session1, 11:30-13:00). The presentation allowed some time for questions and answers, and was focused on NCWRM best practices/cases applied in the Region of Murcia, measures and lessons learned, with focus on the waste water treatment reuse. The Murcia case is relevant since freshwater resources in Malta are limited and 50% of the water supply comes from desalination. Waste water treatment has not yet been affected in the Maltese islands, but will constitute a new promising non conventional water resource, especially for agriculture. Therefore, according to the organization, sharing the experience of Murcia was an asset for the Consultation and will provide significant input to the development of the National Water Management Plan for the Maltese Islands.
