The 5th Press Release AQUARES Project

The project focuses on achieving efficient water management through water reuse and ensuring the protection of water resources. Water recycling is the key to its sustainability not only in the dry regions of Europe, but all over the world. The wide theme is the reuse of wastewater in Europe, which has a higher quality after treatment and is suitable for further use. Water recycling can contribute to resource efficiency in areas such as recovery, using the right innovations, wetlands, irrigating crops, increasing industrial use (e.g. water for cooling) or improving soil quality and improving the retention capacity of the landscape.

The implementation of the project aims to adopt sustainable development and eco-innovation in agriculture, industry, urban and recreational areas. This will raise awareness of the scientific knowledge and benefits of reuse water sources and of water efficiency solutions for the environmental sustainability of agricultural and industrial enterprises in the EU.

Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the project's partners were forced to postpone some of the activities last semester. Actually, the situation with COVID19 has not improved much. Therefore, it is still not possible to travel in many countries, to hold physical meetings, nor attend any meetings physically. Many of us work from home in different parts of Europe. The simplest solution, also recommended by the Joint Secretariat (JS), was to transform physical events into online events and thus not postpone any activities. The FLA partner was among the first to do so during regular working meetings, and other partners in different countries followed the steps. The transformation into the online events took place, in part,at a workshop in Oldenburg in Germany, on the beginning of March 2020, where all partners could not physically participate.

Currently, in the fifth semester, the Study visit and the Site visit were held for all partners and their stakeholders, organized online by the RRA PK partner, from the Czech Republic. The Site visit analysed technologies of water treatment, recovery and awareness in the Czech Republic. It was organized on 22nd of September. There has been presented two best practices – Botanica K and Hydrogeopark Pátek. Then the Study visit was organized on 25th of September. The study visit was organized to transfer experience on water reuse implementation and monitoring issues in the Czech Republic.

Additionally, some best practices from Pardubice region – Green roof in Lanškroun city, Dry polder Žichlínek, Hanging garden in Polička city and Biotop in the Hlinsko city, were presented too. It can be read more about the visits now on our website https://www.interregeurope.eu/aquares/, in the Library section and you can also watch the recorded videos of these meetings, which are in English. By looking at the records, you can get to know us better and look into the secrets of the AQUARES project. On our website, we also shared methodologies and outputs in which all the partners participated. The last, but very important novelty on our website, which we want to point out is in section Good Practices, where you will find a list of good practices from partner countries. Therefore, do not hesitate to visit our website and be inspired by the AQUARES project.
